Unto the Brewers, Vintners, and Imbibers of Lochac does Clerk Bjorn send Greetings,
I write to you with several items of business
First and foremost, I would call for Nominations for the Clerk of the Guild in accordance with our Charter.
Rowany Festival is in one month. At that time the Clerk of the Guild shall be confirmed for the following year. For the next two weeks, I will receive nominations for Clerk. Please send nominations to brewers@lochac.sca.org.
In two weeks I will announce the nominees for the position and call for members of the Guild to vote for their preferred nominee. I will then, at the Annual Meeting at Rowany Festival, present the results of the poll for ratification.
On upcoming events,
Meeting
Autumn Crown | 22 Jan | Canton of Okewaite
I don’t intend to have this set formally in the schedule of the event, but merely wish to make it known that I and Master Ianto will be present at this event. I will be bringing a keg each of English unhopped ale and an apple cider that I will seek to share liberally with the populace. I will tentatively speak for the good Master in saying that we would both be delighted to share in the fraternity of brewing with any good Noble in attendance at the event. Between the two of us, we can also judge for the purposes of Apprentice Rankings.
Meeting & Competition
Rowany Festival | 16-21 April | Barony of Rowany
“The favourite I keep making”
Master Ianto van Diemen, having been the winner of last year’s Competition Something Red, has set forth this year’s Guild Competition The favourite I keep making. The winner shall receive a RAPT Pill Hydrometer & Thermometer, sponsored by Master Ianto van Diemen. This piece of sorcery measures the specific gravity and temperature of your brew wirelessly from the inside.
If there are other upcoming events in your local area where Guild activities might take place, please let me know and I will advertise in the Guild’s channels.
On the agenda for the Annual Meeting,
We shall ratify the election of the Guild Clerk, and confirm the minutes of the previous Annual Meeting. I will table my report to the Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences. I realise now that I made a report shortly after my election that was never tabled, so I will present that for consideration.
I will also briefly discuss the Guild Bar (name pending) and how it is operating.
I would also raise some recommendations for reform. Unfortunately, I have been remiss in organising this in sufficient advance of the Annual Meeting as to be able to set out such reform for commentary by our Members at the meeting at Canterbury Faire. As such, I will not propose any reform to be voted at the Annual Meeting, but will instead collate recommendations to be discussed over the year to come, and to be voted on at the Annual Meeting next year.
I will detail this further in a separate missive next week.
Though, I do not wish to congest the meeting with business that will not be put, so I will simply mention these matters at the meeting with a stated expectation that discussion will be ongoing after the meeting and tasting.
Then we shall proceed to the Competition and then General Tasting.
To the active Masters of the Guild,
I have been in correspondence with numerous people recently and in past months about matters of Ranking. There are references in our Ranking system to the active Masters of the Guild, and I would like to reach out privately to those active Guild Masters on these matters. I have means of contacting most of you, and if we have been in recent contact, rest assured I will reach out to you soon.
For those others whom I either do not know, or have not been in recent contact, if you would be willing to lend your counsel in such matters, please let me know your email address.
On the Bar to operate under the sign of the Guild at Rowany Festival,
The Seneschals of the Colleges of Lochac have conferred, and have agreed to host our Bar. I for one am enthused that our Art might be thus nestled in the bosom of scholarship and revelry characteristic of the Colleges.
If you have not responded to the Bar Name Poll, and would like to do so, please do so at https://forms.gle/P3NAycLUBSg43GX38
I have been asked on multiple occasions how people might support what we’re doing financially. To that end we are opening sponsorships for the Bar for those Gentles who are inspired by our Art and wish to support this Endeavour. Any funds raised will be used to cover costs associated with the setup and operation of the bar, as outlined in the previously distributed proposal. To be quite explicit, any such sponsorship will NOT be a requirement of service at the bar (i.e. there will be no sale of alcohol, direct or indirect), and no funds will be distributed as profit from these fundraising efforts.
We will welcome the following sponsorships:
Patrons of Good Will: 10 gold or more
Patrons of Providence: 100-200 gold
Patrons of Outstanding Merit: 500 gold
All patrons will receive a writ recognising their patronage. A List of Honour will be displayed in the Bar listing all patrons who have thus contributed. Patrons of Providence and Outstanding Merit will have naming rights for a brew in honour of their contribution. Patrons of Outstanding Merit will be the major patron for a given evening. Each hour of service for the evening, the Bar will announce our thanks to the patron and a small message.
I am open to hearing other suggestions for perks to offer patrons.
Yours in Service to the Guild of Brewers, Vintners, and Imbibers
